The historic fortress Castel Valer finally opens to the public

Castel Valer is at the top of the town of Tassullo and is one of the best preserved jewels of Val di Non. Castel Valer is an old manor house dating back to 1200 whose beauty has remained intact for centuries, among frescoes, ancient rooms , furniture and weapons. This Castle was the historic residence of the Spaur family; it is considered a patrimony of the territory which rises in the municipality of Ville d’Anaunia (Trento) – which, finally, open to the public from the spring of 2017. Castel Valer was built on a Roman ruin (not by chance in its surroundings there have been found ancient finds).

Today, Castel Valer, is one of the best preserved mansions in the entire Alpine zone, and it is alongside the well-known Castel Thun to extend the cultural offer of the Val di Non. You can only access it with a guided tour, during which you can admire the inner courtyards , the cellars, the gardens, the San Valerio chapel, frescoed by Giovanni and Battista Baschenis, the Madruzzian rooms, studios, Gothic cuisine, the loggia and the coat of arms. The rooms, kitchens and corridors are embellished with tapestries, carpets and beautiful paintings.
